Funding of over €300,000 for the non-Gaeltacht islands for the period from mid-May to the end of 2015 has been announced today by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht after reaching an agreement with Comhar na nOileán Teo. who will be responsible for administering the fund at a total cost of €34,160 in 2015. Funding for the non-Gaeltacht islands was previously provided by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. Announcing the funding, Minister of State McHugh said that he was pleased that his Department was in a position to reach agreement with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government regarding the funding and that the resources are now available between both Departments to ensure that there will be no reduction in funding for the organisations in comparison with 2014. Minister of State McHugh said: “This announcement is evidence of my Department’s commitment to the islands and I am satisfied that the resources are available to ensure that these organisations on the non-Gaeltacht islands will continue to be funded. I would like to thank Minister Alan Kelly and Minister of State Ann Phelan at the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government for their cooperation in reaching this resolution.” A breakdown of funding is detailed in the table below:
