Irish Film Board supported productions have secured four Golden Globe nominations with Lenny Abrahamson’s Room nominated in the category of Best Motion Picture, Room’s Brie Larson and Brooklyn’s Saoirse Ronan both nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, while Emma Donoghue was nominated for Best Screenplay for Room which she adapted from her own award-winning book. In addition to the Irish Film Board funded films above, there was further Irish success as Michael Fassbender was nominated in the category of Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs. Caitriona Balfe received a nomination in the category of Best Actress in a TV series for Outlander. Also in this category is Eva Green, nominated for her role in Penny Dreadful, which was shot on location in Dublin. “I am delighted to see so many Irish actors and filmmakers nominated for the Golden Globes. In what is already proving a superb awards season for Irish film, these nominations follow on from last weekend’s British Independent Film Awards where Saoirse Ronan picked up the Best Actress award, Brendan Gleeson claimed the Best Supporting Actor award and Lenny Abrahmson’s Room was named Best International Film. “The Irish film industry boasts some incredible talent and it is great to see this recognised internationally. Ireland has developed a very strong reputation as a film location in recent years and every time an Irish actor or filmmaker wins an international award, it gives the entire sector here a boost. I would like to congratulate all of the Irish Golden Globe nominees and wish them the very best for awards night.” |
