On Wednesday 30 September, the Fulbright Commission of Ireland will host an information session on funding opportunities for Irish Language teaching and research in the USA. The event will take place at the Foras na Gaeilge building on 7 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 from 4.30-6pm. Speakers at the event will include The Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs,Joe McHugh T.D., Fulbright Commission Awards Manager and FLTA Alumna, Ms Lisa Nic an Bhreithimh, and a panel consisting of four Fulbright FLTA Alumni. Attendees will hear about Irish language activity in the US today and the opportunities available to Irish language speakers through the Fulbright Commission. The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Awards, sponsored by the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht and the National Lottery, provide grants for Irish or E.U. citizens with fluent Irish, to teach the Irish language in the United States for a period of 9-10 months. Successful candidates to date have ranged from graduate students, to primary school teachers, third level tutors and other professionals. The application period for 2016-2017 Awards is now open with a deadline of 30 October 2015. The Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs,Joe McHugh T.D. said of the Fulbright Irish FLTA Awards: “These awards represent a wonderful opportunity for Irish speakers with third-level qualifications both to develop their careers in the United States and to bring their language and culture to a new audience abroad. I would, therefore, encourage teachers of Irish, particularly those in Gaeltacht areas, to attend this event and to consider applying for one of these valuable scholarships.” Tags: Fulbright Awards |
