Peace and Neutrality Alliance public meeting
18 Oct 2014: posted by the editor - Events, Ireland

The Irish Neutrality and Peace Alliance (PANA) has organised a public meeting in Dublin, saying that much attention has been given by the media to those who supported World War One and scant coverage to those in opposition.

PANA said that in 1914 the Irish Neutrality League brought together a broad alliance of those opposed to what PANA described as the Imperialist War of 1914-18, including James Connolly of the T&GWU, Arthur Griffith of Sinn Féin, Countess Markeivicz and Francis Sheehy Skeffington.

They organised a major public meeting in October 1914. Its supporters included all those who signed the 1916 Proclamation.

To mark this historic event PANA has organised with the help of SIPTU a public meeting in Liberty Hall in Tuesday 21 October at 7.30pm with the following speakers: Gerry Adams TD, President of Sinn Féin, Mary Carolan, Sheehy Skeffington School of Human Rights & Social Justice, Jack O'Connor, General President, SIPTU. Michael O'Reilly, Dublin Council of Trade Unions, Dr. Margaret Ward, Feminist Historian

The meeting will be chair Freda Hughes, Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
