The EU — Champions or Renegades of the era?

I admit that at a much younger age I unashamedly championed the cause of the EU.

That emphasises the malleability, and thus fallibility, of innocence. It also emphasises how the widespread distribution of insufficient information by the media and by those supporting any particular cause can be dangerously persuasive  to the thinking of someone who may not have the time or inclination to investigate deeper into the issues.

Move on to that person being asked to vote on the issue in a democratic society and the risks become apparent. It may not be long before England signs away its Magna Carta into toothless ineffectiveness deep in the unvisited cellars of the EU headquarters, if indeed that has not already happened.

If such comes to pass, the Magna Carta would be replaced by legislation emanating from non-elected members of advisory panels to the EU itself and then signed into law by the European Parliament. Such officials are appointed by the EU administration without input from MEPs. The dangers are monstrous.

The EU favours such things as courts without juries, presumed guilt over innocence and external control over the military of EU member states that overrides the control of the state itself. It is encroaching more and more on the jurisdication of regional and local state authorities by gradually passing legislation through the EU parliament that erodes the legal statutes of those authorities.

The greatest protagonists of broadening the legal influence of the EU into its member states are Germany and France.
