Just Forests NEW Wood of Life travelling exhibition on the importance of timber/forests in the fight against Climate Change is being launched this evening, Tuesday 11th January at European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2 at 6.30pm. Its is being launched by Duncan Stewart.

2011 is the UN-designated International Year of Forests. Worldwide global populations are increasing.

While great work has been done on lifting people out of starvation – there has been NO corresponding initiatives to increase natural resources.

In the next few weeks the global population will increase to 7BILLION. Where do you think people will get their natural resources when the global population reaches the anticipated 9.3billion mark?

According to Tom Roche, Founder of Just Forests, “We have no time to lose -- the debate is raging about what to do. This exhibition is not just about saving forests it is about survival.”

Let’s build a giant global initiative calling for REAL conservation and appreciation of natural resources during 2011 - the UN-designated International Year of Forests.

A flourishing seventeenth-century Irish timber export trade died out in the early years of the eighteenth century, and Ireland became a timber-importing country-due mainly to overexploitation and lack of appropriate management.

The following line from an early Irish poem http://www.musicanet.org/robokopp/eire/cillchai.htm lamenting the destruction of Ireland's forests in the 16th century could very well apply to many countries today where forests are threatened with commercial over-exploitation and illegal-logging.

Cill Cais is a gaelic song describing the aftermath of the destruction of Ireland's forests in the 16th century.

Cad a dheanfaimid feasta gan adhmad, ta deire na gcoilte air lar.
