 Irish artist Duncan Campbell has been awarded the 2014 Turner Prize for his work, It for Others.
The Turner Prize, named after the painter J. M. W. Turner, was set up in 1984 to celebrate new developments in contemporary art. Since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the United Kingdom's most publicised art award.
Congratulating Mr Campbell Arts, Heritage and the GaeltachtMinister Heather Humphreys said: “I would like to congratulate Duncan on his success. It is wonderful to see his bold, pioneering work being recognised with such a prestigious award. International recognition such as this is a great reflection on the quality of work being produced by Irish artists. This is a very proud moment for the Irish arts community."
The Turner prize judges described Campbell’s film as 'an ambitious and complex film which rewards repeated viewing'. They also spoke of his 'exceptional dedication to making a work which speaks about the construction of value and meaning in ways that are topical and compelling'.
