GUIDELINES FOR DOOR SECURITY STAFF AT PREMISES SERVING ALCOHOL
compiled by Newsmedianews

"The customer is always most important even if drunk and must always be treated courteously and with respect."

A drunk person is one of three things:

    1. someone who may have personal problems the extent of which you are unaware, or
    2. is a persistent drunkard (alcoholic), or
    3. has simply drunk too much on a rare occasion.

All three have a problem and likewise all three require varying help of some description.

The important thing to remember is that the customer comes first, even if you don't like it. If you can't stomach that, then you are not in the right job.

Sometimes an unruly or badly behaved customer will have to be asked to leave or be escorted off the premises.

Use of undue force is to be avoided at all cost unless the customer becomes unduly remonstrative or becomes physically abusive towards other persons. Verbal abuse from someone who has consumed too much alcohol is not a valid reason to use undue force upon that person and those who continue to consider it is acceptable to use violent methods should be fired from their job and blacklisted by all responsible operators within the industry.

Polite firmness is what is required and all that is acceptable. Greater use of force may only be considered acceptable if the customer becomes physically violent or abusive and in such cases only the use of such force as is sufficient to restrain and contain the problem without causing undue harm may be considered correct and acceptable.

Remember that security staff who act beyond the means deemed acceptable within these guidelines are not placing just themselves open to lawsuits, they are also placing their employers in a like position.
