Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD)
Helping the World Food Programme set up an urgent operation centre in Jakarta to specialise in security and risk assessments for relief operations. FSD will work to reduce the risk to relief workers and tsunami survivors of unexploded ordnance in conflict areas such as Aceh in Indonesia. In Sri Lanka, FSD has moved all existing resources to the Ampara district, a coastal zone south of Batticaloa partly controlled by Tamil Tigers, at the request of the Tigers’ humanitarian wing. FSD has been giving first aid to the victims, removing and transporting the wounded, co-ordinating and distributing aid, clearing debris, removing bodies and assessing needs.
