Online auction behemoth ebay is the latest sponsor to sever ties with the highly criticised American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).
Online action group The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), a non-profit investigative reporting group and linked in websites PRWatch.org, SourceWatch.org, ALECexposed.org and FoodRightsNetwork.org campaigned against the policies of the ALEC.
A statement released by CMD said: "The recent exodus of technology firms from ALEC, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo and more, came following increased awareness of ALEC's role in preaching climate denial and attacking EPA rules to reduce carbon pollution.
"Because of the hard work of environmental groups, consumer groups, and thoughtful concerned citizens like you, ALEC now has fewer corporate sponsors than ever before. The corporate bill mill finished last year with a $1.2 million deficit. Ouch.
"Together we have convinced some of the biggest companies in the world, including General Motors and GE, that their membership in ALEC is just not worth the risk to their brand and reputation.
"Next year CMD will continue to track ALEC's every move and to keep an eye on its spin-off lobbying group and city and county group."
